Former Punjab MLA Dalvir Goldy Joins AAP After Leaving Congress

Chandigarh, May 1, 2024: Former Congress MLA Dalvir Singh Goldy, who recently left the party, officially joined the AAP on Wednesday, following his dissatisfaction over not receiving a party ticket for the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat. Goldy, who previously contested against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the 2022 Assembly polls, was welcomed into the AAP by CM Mann himself.

Expressing his support for young leaders in politics, CM Mann described Goldy as a dedicated youth and referred to him as his younger brother. AAP, which has nominated Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer for the Sangrur parliamentary seat, sees Goldy’s induction as a strategic move to bolster its candidate lineup.

Addressing allegations made by Congress candidate Sukhpal Khaira, CM Mann dismissed claims of pressure from the Vigilance Bureau on Goldy, stating that AAP does not tolerate baseless accusations. Instead, he emphasized AAP’s commitment to recruit promising candidates from other parties who feel neglected.

Goldy’s political journey includes a victory in the 2017 Assembly polls, where he defeated AAP’s Jasvir Singh Jassi Sekhon by a narrow margin. Notably, the Dhuri Assembly constituency, which Goldy previously represented, falls within the Sangrur parliamentary seat currently held by comedian-turned-politician Mann.
