Chandigarh, April 30, 2024: Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma announced today that over 95% of the 100.58 LMT wheat supply received in the state’s grain markets has been successfully procured, thanks to the seamless procurement process. Farmers have been promptly compensated with Rs. 17,340.40 credited directly to their bank accounts upon selling their produce.
In a high-level meeting with procurement agency officials and Deputy Commissioners to assess the procurement process, the Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of ensuring a hassle-free selling experience for farmers in the markets. Additionally, he stressed the need for comprehensive preparations to address any challenges arising from unexpected rainfall.
Verma highlighted that essential facilities have been implemented to support farmers, commission agents, and laborers, facilitating a smooth procurement process. To date, Punjab has received a total of 100.58 LMT wheat in its markets, of which 95.83 LMT has already been procured, surpassing the 95% mark
Significantly, this year’s wheat projection stands at 132 LMT for the mandis, with 75% of the expected produce already delivered. The Chief Secretary highlighted that all payments, following the 48-hour payment protocol, have been completed, with farmers receiving Rs. 17,340.40 in their accounts. To streamline the lifting process, 27 special trains are operational, demonstrating the government’s commitment to procure every grain.
