AAP may vie for 4 seats in Delhi, Congress set for 3: Sources. Delve into the intricate political landscape of Delhi, where the BJP’s consistent electoral success. Tensions between the AAP and Congress over seat-sharing. Conflicting views on merit and alliance principles shape the dynamics of the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Sources suggest that in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the Congress is poised to secure three of the seven seats in Delhi. As negotiations with the AAP enter the final phase. The AAP, currently in control in Delhi, is expected to compete for the remaining four seats. Earlier this week, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal mentioned that:

The seat-sharing arrangement between the two parties was in the “final stage,” despite expressing regret over the prolonged discussions.

Kejriwal informed reporters:

“We’ll wait and see what unfolds over the next two to three days. The process has been significantly delayed; ideally, it should have occurred earlier.”

BJP Dominance and Coalition Tensions: Delhi’s Electoral Landscape:

In both 2014 and 2019, the BJP secured victory across all seven seats in Delhi. With its vote share exceeding 50 percent in all constituencies during the latter election. Initially, the AAP had extended an offer to the Congress party for just one of the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. It lead to heighten tensions between the two coalition partners. AAP MP Sandeep Pathak stated last week:

“Based on merit alone, the Congress party isn’t entitled to even a single seat in Delhi. However, out of a commitment to the principles of alliance, we are proposing one seat for the Congress party and six for AAP.”

The rift between the two parties intensified when the AAP announced its intention to independently contest all 14 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab and Chandigarh. Additionally, the AAP unilaterally decided to field candidates for three seats in Assam and two seats in Gujarat. This decision emerged following the conclusion of a seat-sharing agreement between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh. Where the Congress will vie for 17 Lok Sabha seats, leaving the remaining 63 seats to the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party and other alliance partners within the INDIA bloc.
