PM in Haryana: Government Supports Farmers Amid Protests. This demonstrates a clear commitment to address concerns and support agricultural communities during challenging times.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that his BJP government at the Centre has been actively crafting schemes to support farmers. His remarks coincided with the ongoing second edition of the farmers‘ protest, which commenced its fourth day. PM Modi made these comments while addressing the public after laying the foundation stone at AIIMS Rewari, also taking aim at the previous Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the Centre has provided farmers with the “assurance” to access loans from banks, a privilege previously unavailable to them.
“We provided farmers with a guarantee,” he stated.
“Banks did not grant them loans, but we ensured the farmers had that guarantee.”
Government Assurances Admist Farmer March:
Since February 13, farmers, mainly from Punjab, have been journeying towards Delhi to press the Centre on various demands. Including a farm loan waiver and legislation on the minimum support price (MSP).
A five-hour marathon discussion between leaders of protesting farmer unions and three Union ministers, no resolution was reached. Subsequently, farmers informed reporters that they would escalate their protest and adhere to their march. Intending to enter the national capital.
Increased security forces have been stationed at the borders between Punjab and Haryana, as well as at the borders of Delhi with its neighboring states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, as farmers from these regions continue their march towards the capital. In three districts of Haryana, internet services remain suspended, and barricades along with barbed wire fences have been erected to prevent protesting farmers from entering Delhi.
Since February 13, traffic has been severely disrupted, particularly at the borders of Delhi. Social media posts depict long traffic jams, with commuters enduring lengthy delays and taking alternate routes to reach their destinations. To mitigate inconvenience, both Noida and Delhi Police have issued traffic advisories. Additionally, Section 144, prohibiting gatherings of five or more people, has been enforced in both the capital and Noida.
