The initial action of the NDA government under Nitish Kumar’s leadership: Taking steps against the RJD.

Following Nitish Kumar’s transition to the NDA and assuming the Chief Minister role, several leaders from the BJP-led coalition submitted a no-confidence motion notice to remove Assembly Speaker Awadh Bihari Choudhary, an RJD member. The notice was issued by BJP leaders Nand Kishore Yadav and Tarkishore Prasad, former Deputy Chief Minister, along with HAM chief and former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, JD(U)’s Vinay Kumar Choudhary, Ratnesh Sada, and other NDA alliance MLAs.

After days of ambiguity, Nitish Kumar definitively parted ways with the RJD and Congress, members of the Mahagathbandhan government, to be sworn in as Chief Minister for an unprecedented ninth term under the NDA alliance.

The JD(U) leader aligned with the Mahagathbandhan in August 2022 after breaking ties with the BJP, accusing it of attempting to divide his party.

With this development, the NDA in Bihar now commands 128 MLAs, surpassing the majority threshold by six. Conversely, the Mahagathbandhan, comprising the RJD, Congress, and Left parties, holds 114 MLAs.

In the 243-seat Bihar assembly, the RJD leads with 79 MLAs, followed by the BJP with 78, JD(U) with 45, and Congress with 19.

The Left parties account for 16 MLAs, while the HAM and AIMIM have four and one respectively. Additionally, there is one independent MLA in the House.
