In a boost to ‘Make in India’, Airbus Helicopters partners with Tata Group for a helicopter assembly line. The line will produce Airbus’ H125 helicopter for India and neighboring countries. It marks the private sector’s first helicopter manufacturing facility in India, supporting the ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), a Tata Group subsidiary, will establish the facility with Airbus Helicopters. The announcement was made during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to India for Republic Day. The facility will integrate major component assemblies, avionics, and mission systems, with deliveries expected to start in 2026.
The location will be decided jointly by Airbus and Tata Group. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury stated the project reaffirms Airbus’ commitment to India’s aerospace ecosystem. It follows the ‘Make in India’ C295 military aircraft manufacturing facility in Gujarat.
Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran expressed delight in setting up India’s first private helicopter assembly facility. The H125, known for its versatility, will revolutionize various sectors in India, including emergency services, tourism, and regional connectivity schemes.
The H125, part of Airbus’ Ecureuil family, is highly adaptable for diverse missions. The proposed facility will be Airbus’ second assembly line in India, following the C295 FAL in Gujarat. Airbus aims to develop a comprehensive aerospace ecosystem in India, encompassing manufacturing, training, and academic collaboration.
