Punjab Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema said that the vocational courses based on the requirements of the modern industry are the need of the hour to ensure bright future of the youth.
The Finance Minister was addressing the students after inaugurating the online courses admission portal and corporate resource center at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University here on Friday. He said that after completing such vocational courses students can easily get a job anywhere in the country or abroad.


Speaking on this occasion, Cabinet Minister said that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab Government is fully committed and striving to live up to the aspirations and expectations of the people of the state. “New policies are being framed by the state government for the welfare of the people besides ensuring that the state can be put on a fast track of growth and prosperity”, he added.

He further assured that big decisions would be taken by the state government in the coming days in favour of the people of general public especially the youth of the state.

Appreciating the initiative of launching admission portal and corporate resource center by the university, Cheema assured that the required budget would be provided to the university soon.

Later, interacting with media, Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the fiscal health of the state was miserable when the Aam Aadmi Party government came to power in March this year, but now with continuous efforts the fiscal health of the state has been improved.

Cheema said that for this was the first time that during initial 6 months of a financial year state has crossed the GST collection of more than 10 thousand crore rupees.


Replying to a query, the Finance Minister said that for the first time in the last 25 years a new excise policy has been brought by the Punjab Government to eliminate the liquor mafia from the state besides increase revenue from excise.

Prominent amongst others, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mr. Rahul, VC-Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu, Registrar Dr. Gurinder pal Singh Brar, Director Sports and Youth Welfare Dr. Bhupinderpal Singh Dhot were also present on this occasion.
