The Governor of Punjab Mr. Banwarilal Purohit today said that Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan has immensely contributed in keeping the flame of traditional music alive.
The Governor, who was here today to inaugurate the three-day-long 146th Harivallabh Sangeet Samelan at Sri Devi Talab Mandir, said that this sammelan has emerged as a catalyst in perpetuating the rich musical and cultural heritage of India to every nook and corner of world.
He said that this festival was the basic essence of our rich culture and younger generations must be apprised about it. Mr. Purohit said that it was all the more important to keep our younger generations abreast of the glorious cultural legacy of the state and the country.
Accompained by Chairman of the mahasabha Shital Vij, President Poornima Beri, General Secretary Deepak Bali, former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Dr Iqbal Singh, Mr. Purohit lauded the efforts of Shri Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Mahasabha adding it was a matter of great pride and satisfaction for all of us that Jalandhar has been holding such a oldest classical music event for around 146 years. He also mentioned that the Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan was a globally acclaimed event, which has provided a big platform to the budding artists for showcasing their talent besides promoting the rich cultural heritage of the state. Mr. Purohit further said that the event has been encouraging young minds to preserve the glorious cultural legacy of the state and the country.
Appreciating the role of the organizing committee for holding this event every year, the Governor said that due to the concerted efforts of the committee the name of Jalandhar is shining at globe because of this event. He also encouraged the committee to organize such events not only in Jalandhar but also abroad while offering fulsome support and cooperation to them for this cause.
Meanwhile, the Governor also honoured the artists who participated in the event besides urging them to continue serving the Indian classical music as it was need of the hour that our younger generations should connect with their musical and cultural legacy.
Earlier the entire organizing committee welcomed Mr. Purohit on his arrival at Shri Devi Talab Mandir while President Poornima Beri thanked the governor for gracing the ocassion with his presence despite his busy schedule. He also paid obesiance at Shri Devi Talab Mandir.
