Jalandhar, August 15-
Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today gave a Rs 196.47 crore bonanza to Jalandhar residents as Medical Education and Research Minister Punjab OP Soni announced slew of projects for the development of city on Independence Day.
Announcing these gifts after unfurling national tricolour flag here during the district level function organised at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, the Minister, accompanied by Member Parliament Chaudhry Santokh Singh, MLAs Pargat Singh, Rajinder Beri, Sushil Rinku, Avtar Singh Bawa Henry, Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, Commissioner of Police Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, and SSP Naveen Singla, announced 22 development projects for the district including Rs. 16 crore worth NIFT campus at Guru Gobind Singh Avenue, sewrage treatment plant at a cost of Rs. 3.14 crore in Shahkot, parks in Lajpat Nagar at Rs. 4.13 crore, Kartarpur-Kishangarh road at an outlay of Rs. 2.52 crore, foundation stone of approach road of Adampur airport at Rs. R1.40 crore, water supply and sewrage projects for villages worth Rs. 51.63 crore, a Rs. 50 crore project for upgradation of sewrage treatment plant in the city, construction of new treatment plant in Basti Peerdad at Rs. 16.18 crore, and others. He mentioned that Captain government has started three plazma banks in three medical colleges of the state adding three new medical colleges were being started at an outlay of Rs. 1000 crore in the state. He further added that in Amristar a state of art cancer centre would be set up at Rs. 120 crore and a advance virology centre would come up in New Chandigarh worth Rs. 550 crore.
In his address the Minister said that the Captain government is committed for holistic development of the every nook and corner of the state. He said that these projects will give fillip to the overall development of the city besides putting the district on a high growth trajectory.
The Minister also reminded the people of enormous contribution of Punjabis’s in the national freedom struggle. Citing that above 80% people who were either martyred, exiled or imprisoned for life term were Punjabis, He said our brave Punjabi soldiers have ever safeguarded the integrity of country from external aggression and internal disturbances.
The Minister said that Punjabis are all the more proud for this sacred land from where the pivotal movements of freedom struggle like Kuka, Pagri Sambhal, Ghadar, Gurudwara Reform, Babbar Akali and others were spearheaded. He said that the state government was committed for the welfare of all sections of the society especially the poor and the disadvantaged ones.
Earlier, the Minister took salute from an impressive parade comprising the contingents of ITBP, Punjab Police, Home Guards, NCC, CRPF Band led by Parade Commander Murad Jasvir Singh Gill.
On the occasion, the Minister honored renowned personalities in recognition to their outstanding performance in their respective fields. As many as 133 such personalities were felicitated during the event for their outstanding performance especially amid Covid-19 pandemic. He also distributed four tricycles, three wheel chairs, and five sewing machines to needy people to make them self-reliant. In the end, district administration Jalandhar led by DC Ghanshyam Thori and CP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar presents memento as a token of love to the chief guest.
