Farmers in deep trouble: Union govt should immediately address farmers’ concerns: Bhagwant Mann

Chandigarh, 3 December 2020

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab President and Member of Parliament Bhagwant Mann lashed out at the Narendra Modi government over the marathon meeting between the farmers and the Union government, asking why the government was backtracking on acceding to the just demands of the farmers, who were fighting against the three draconian laws in the bitter cold facing other odds .

In a statement issued from the party headquarters on Thursday, Bhagwant Mann said that instead of further confounding the agrarian issues of the beleaguered farmers due to its stubborn stance, the Modi government should immediately accept the demands of the farmers and roll back the anti-agriculture law by making MSP the legal right of the farmers, demanding that the government should immediately convene special session of Parliament to resolve the issues of the affarmers.

The AAP MP said that the demands of the farmers were very categorically clear and genuine which, he said, the government was not trying to understand and  take an urgent call on them, questioning why were invites for meeting sent to the farmers if the government was in no hurry to resolve the issues and concerns.

Mann said that it was an issue that concerned only the farmers but also other sections, including the arhtiyas,  transporters, laborers, shopkeepers and traders, saying the issues were not resolved, all of them would be left to face the heat.

The AAP MP  wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking immediate convening of a special session of Parliament on agricultural laws.

In his letter, Mann said that repeal of anti-agriculture laws was the only way forward to resolve the stalemate, urging him to convene a  special session of the Lok Sabha.

Mann further said the country’s ‘annaadaata’ was being subjected to all kinds of odds triggered by the agricultural laws brought in by the Modi government, adding that millions of farmers from all over the country had reached the borders of the capital City, along with their families, under the ‘Dilli Chalo’ call given by the farmer bodies fighting for the repeal of the agricultural laws.
